First Sarah Jessica Parker, then Leighton Meester as Blair Waldorf and now you! We used to wear headbands in primary school and the last two years they are one of the most fashionable accessories as they play an important role in collections of big brands such as H&M and Accessories. There are many kinds of headbands such as leathered, plastic, metal, fabric, toothed and novelty. They can easily offer a fabulous way to instantly dress up an existing outfit or hairstyle or even deal with a bad hair day... If you find them too risky to wear them, then think of some simple types:

1. Headbands are not only fashion accessories, they are also very functional as they can hold your hair off your face. Just be careful because if a headband is too tight, then it might hurt you.
2. A headband can work for all types of hair(short & long, thick or thin etc.).
3. And last but not least a headband allows you to dress up a style and be individual!

Impressive. Fabulous. Brilliant. Inspired. Sophisticated. Chic. Fantastic. Talented. Beautiful. Excellent. Unique.

These are some of the words that can describe Mary Katrantzou and her work. The Greek designers’ spring and summer 2011 collection is really impressive. Multicolored patterns, great digital prints, bold graphics and Swarovski details are what we saw at her last runway show. Definitely one of my favorite designers and a really good reason to travel to London!

Some facts about the designer:

Mary Katrantzou was born in Greece but she studied at Rhode Island School of Design and did her MA at Central Saint Martin’s.

She was awarded the Best Graduate award at the London Fashion Awards for her SS 2009 collection.

The designers’ base is currently London.

What I saw today!

An old lady, almost fifty years old, with a leopard cardigan, a leopard scarf, black bell bottomed trousers in the length of her ankles, 5inch black boots and a white bag..Ok! this lady was for sure totally irrelevant with fashion but the truth is that excesses with leopard aren't difficult to be made, especially if you don't have the perfect body or the right age! So if you are not sure about how to add leopard in your wardrobe prefer an elegant accessory, like scarfs and hats with a monochrome outfit and you 'll be ready! G

"The D&G Summer 2011 Women's collection is a day in the garden. It starts early in the morning with gardening outfits made of canvas dungarees and trousers and it goes on with a picnic, mixing flowery prints with vichy patterns. It then follows on with a cocktail where light, flower-printed, poplin summer dresses take centre stage and it ends with a party al fresco where it is imperative to show up in long floral chiffon gowns. Roses, hydrangeas, freesias, violets and mimosas: these are the symbols of this collection, which mixes different floral prints with vichy patterns, denim and canvas, printed patent leather shoes and the iconic Lily Twist.r shoes and the iconic Lily Twist."

ALEXANDER MC QUEEN

Alexander Mc Queen’s memorial service gathered to St Paul’s Cathedral, London many top models, designers and other important people of the fashion industry. Among the people who honored McQueen with their presence were Sarah Jessica Parker, Pam Hogg, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney and US Vogue editor Anna Wintor.

The designer was a graduate of Central Saint Martin’s, one of the best universities worldwide. He was named British designer of the year three times and he was described by Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue as a “modern genius”.

Alexander Mc Queen was openly gay and got married in 2000 to G. Forsyth.

The extremely talented designer committed suicide last February the day before his mother‘s funeral. Alexander Mc Queen had a history of depression and anxiety. His tragic death means a great loss for the fashion world as Alexander Mc Queen was more than just a designer. He was an artist.

NAKED

The eccentric hat designer Charlie le Mindu surprised his audience at London Fashion Week when two of his models walked on the runway totally naked. The Colors of the season (Fall Winter 2010)

First we have black. Seems that all designers agree on that. You will find black at the runway shows of most American, English, Italian and French designers. Other colors for this season are soft greys , deep reds, camel tones, white, a touch of blue and a bit of gold.

Lady Gaga: genius or copy-paste expert?

When I first watched Alejandro, the new video of Lady Gaga, it seemed a little boring to me. I thought that I might have been wrong but with a second glance the clip was just a deja vu! Her style reminds me so much of Madonna. The androgynous look, the suit, the dance, the male ballet, the crosses are all ‘’ inspired ‘’ by Madonna. Her videos for Vogue, Erotica and Express Yourself are recycled in Alejandro. The most convincing evidence is the gun bra, which is designed by Samuel Menkes and is a parallax of Madonna’s outstanding bras. Moreover, Gaga recycles her own videos, while she is trying to make something creative and fresh. She makes a provocative use of religion and her sexuality, but in fact, these methods were used decades ago and with more conviction! But it’s not only Lady Gaga who makes extravagant use of the past. The music, the clothes, the shoes, the hair styles and even the majority of the new trends are old! So we cannot blame her, as she follows the tendency of our times and the masses seem to like it.. G

CFDA Awards

This week the spotlight was on the CFDA fashion awards.

The big winner was Marc Jacobs. And how co2010:

uldn’t he be. Marc Jacobs is known as the U.S. leader in fashion trends. The designer stood out since college when he was still a student at Parson the New School for Design and until now continues to create mind-blowing collections. Vogue (May 2010) characterized his latest LV collection as “a delicious fashion moment”. The American designer took the Top Talent in Womenswear award, the most important title the Council of Fashion Designers of America offered.

As for the guests Sarah Jessica Parker arrived at Lincoln Center wearing , as a tribute to Alexander McQueen, his latest ( and unfortunately his last) creation, an astonishing pink-and-purple print gown from the pre-fall collection. Other guests were Gwyneth Paltrow in Michael Kors, Jessica Biel and Rachel Weisz, Iris Apfel and Ed Westwick.
